Apple Stores will now pay you to sign up for Apple Pay

The next time you make a purchase at your local Apple Store, expect to be asked if you want to buy your items with Apple Pay.

Apple is launching a new promotion for its contactless payment system this week that will emphasize paying with your iPhone or Apple Watch rather than busting out a credit card. And those that haven’t signed up for Apple Pay yet will get some free money.

“If a customer declines and does not have Apple Pay set up, employees will guide customers through the setup process to make the purchase and will offer a bonus $5 or £5 iTunes gift card for using Apple Pay as their payment method,” reports MacRumors, which discovered the promotion is being run in the U.S. and the U.K.

The new promotion comes as Apple Pay has been continuing its expansion into France after arriving in China earlier this year. Apple launched its payments platform in 2014 on the iPhone and then Apple Watch. It will come to the Mac this fall with macOS Sierra.

Customers who sign up for Apple Pay will be able to use the $5 iTunes gift card on any Apple Store purchase and will retain the credit on any returned items.
